What's Happening?
The Greater Oklahoma City Chamber has initiated the OKC FAME program, aimed at developing a skilled workforce for the city's expanding manufacturing sector. The program, launched in fall 2024, combines classroom instruction with hands-on training at local manufacturing companies, allowing students to earn a two-year degree in engineering technology from OSU-OKC. The recent signing event marked a significant milestone, with students committing to both their employers and the program, which is designed to fill the region's need for highly skilled talent.
Why It's Important?
The OKC FAME program is crucial for addressing the growing demand for skilled workers in Oklahoma City's manufacturing industry. By providing students with practical experience and education, the program helps ensure that local companies have access to a pipeline of talent. This initiative not only supports the economic growth of the region but also offers students a debt-reduced path to a high-demand career, benefiting both the industry and the workforce.
What's Next?
As the program progresses, the Chamber plans to expand its employer partnerships to further develop manufacturing talent in the region. The first cohort of students is already showing significant growth, and the Chamber is eager to multiply these opportunities. Interested manufacturing employers are encouraged to join the FAME Chapter to help cultivate the next generation of skilled workers.
