What's Happening?
The Arkansas Research Alliance (ARA) has initiated AR-NETWORK, a statewide program funded by an $8 million grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF). This initiative, known as Arkansas Nexus for Excellence in Technology, Workforce, Outreach & Research Knowledge, aims to strengthen the collaboration between businesses and research institutions in Arkansas. The program builds on ARA's existing Impact Grants, which have supported 25 partnerships between researchers and industry. The funding will be distributed over four years, with the possibility of renewal. AR-NETWORK will focus on three main areas: administrative oversight, economic development through commercialization activities, and workforce development, including internships and faculty externships. A key component is the Emerging Research Leaders Program, designed to provide professional development for early-career researchers. The program seeks to expand research capacity across the state, involving community college students to postdoctoral researchers.

What's Next?
The program is currently in the strategic planning phase, with some initiatives already funded. ARA plans to expand existing programs like The EDGE Summit and the Arkansas Commercialization Retreat, fostering entrepreneurial development and commercialization of research. The organization aims to collaborate with all accelerator programs in Arkansas, creating synergy and connecting various initiatives across the state. ARA is also focused on increasing the number of competitive research proposals emerging from Arkansas, leveraging the NSF's EPSCoR program to secure more funding. The success of AR-NETWORK could lead to further E-RISE awards for the state, enhancing its research capabilities.
