What's Happening?
Portland General Electric (PGE) has energized three new battery projects totaling 475 MW/1.9 GWh to bolster grid reliability and mitigate price volatility in the Portland metropolitan area. This expansion increases PGE's large-scale battery storage capacity to 492 MW. The projects are strategically located at key substations in North Portland, Troutdale, and Hillsboro, Oregon. The batteries are designed to provide energy during periods of grid stress and support the integration of renewable sources like wind and solar. The Seaside project, developed by Eolian, began operations in July, while the Sundial project in Troutdale, operated by NextEra Energy Resources, and the Constable facility in Hillsboro, both came online in December.
