Forestry and Land Scotland (FLS) has officially opened the Newton Nursery near Elgin, Moray, with a £26 million investment aimed at significantly increasing tree production. The facility, funded by £20 million from the Scottish Government and £6 million from FLS, is set to nearly triple its output from seven million to 20 million trees annually by 2029. The nursery, which began seedling operations in March, has already established 12 million trees within the UK's largest and most advanced tree-growing glasshouse. The project is designed to meet the Government's woodland creation targets and support sustainable forest management. John Swinney, Scotland's First Minister, emphasized the importance of the nursery in tackling climate change and supporting rural economies.
