Poland and Lockheed Martin Agree on $3.8 Billion F-16 Modernization to Enhance Air Power

Poland has finalized a $3.8 billion agreement with Lockheed Martin to upgrade its fleet of F-16 fighter jets. The deal involves modernizing 36 F-16Cs and 12 F-16Ds from the Block 52+ standard to the latest F-16V configuration, which is equivalent to the Block 70/72 standard of new-build F-16s. The modernization package includes the integration of Northrop Grumman APG-83 radars, electronic warfare enhancements, Sniper targeting pods, and the Automatic Ground Collision Avoidance System. Polish defense minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz highlighted the need for these upgrades to address current threats and improve integration with Poland's planned fleet of fifth-generation stealth fighters. Lockheed Martin will partner with Poland's Wojskowe Zaklady Lotnicze No. 2 to perform the upgrade work locally, enhancing cooperation with Polish defense industry partners.
