What's Happening?
The inaugural class of the Genesee Valley Welding Pre-Apprenticeship Boot Camp has graduated, with most participants moving directly into full-time welding jobs. The program, developed by the Rochester Technology and Manufacturing Association in collaboration with Genesee Community College’s BEST Center, Genesee Valley Educational Partnership, and GLOW Works, provided free classroom instruction paired with paid on-the-job experience. The six-week training included 96 hours of instruction and 100 to 120 hours of practical experience. The initiative, which began in response to regional employers' demand for skilled welders, aims to address workforce needs in advanced manufacturing, a high-demand career in Western New York.
