Lufthansa Technik is extending its AeroShark drag-reduction film coating to Airbus A330 aircraft, aiming to enhance fuel efficiency. The company is pursuing supplemental type certification for the application of this riblet film on A330-200 and A330-300 models. This strategic move targets over 1,250 older A330s in the global fleet, excluding the A330-200F. The AeroShark technology, developed in collaboration with BASF Coatings, has already been approved for Boeing 777 variants, with 28 aircraft modified so far. Certification for the A330 is expected to be completed next year, promising significant operational cost savings and environmental benefits.
