The Delhi High Court has granted interim protection to actor Naga Chaitanya in a personality rights case concerning the alleged unauthorised use of his name, image and likeness across digital platforms, merchandise listings, AI-generated content and online videos.
The matter was heard by Justice Jyoti Singh after Senior Advocate Vaibhav Gaggar, appearing for the actor, submitted that several websites were allegedly using Naga Chaitanya’s name alongside explicit search terms to drive traffic and circulate objectionable content. The court was also shown unauthorised merchandise listings featuring the actor’s likeness.
Naga Chaitanya Gets Interim Relief From Delhi High Court
According to reports, the suit alleges widespread misuse of Naga Chaitanya’s
personality rights through pornographic websites, AI-generated content, deepfake videos, defamatory material and unauthorised commercial exploitation of his identity. The Delhi High Court issued summons to the defendants and directed them to file their responses.
The actor’s plea also raised concerns over manipulated content and allegedly defamatory material linked to his personal life circulating online. YouTube also appeared during the hearing, as per reports, in connection with concerns related to content hosted on the platform.
The plaintiff has also sought a dynamic injunction against recurring infringing websites and URLs, a mechanism often used in online infringement cases where similar content keeps resurfacing through new links or mirror websites.
Court To Examine Scope Of Personality Rights Protection
The matter will be taken up for further consideration after the defendants file their replies. The court is expected to examine the scope of protection available to public figures against online misuse, AI manipulation and unauthorised commercial exploitation.
The case comes at a time when several Indian public figures have approached courts over personality rights and deepfake misuse. Recently, the Delhi High Court also granted relief in similar matters involving celebrities and public personalities, reflecting growing concern over AI-generated content, fake endorsements and unauthorised use of names, images and voices online.
Naga Chaitanya’s Work Front
Naga Chaitanya remains one of the leading actors in Telugu cinema. He has appeared in films such as Ye Maaya Chesave, 100% Love, Manam, Premam, Majili, Love Story and Thandel. The actor has also been in the spotlight for his personal life and public appearances, making the alleged misuse of his identity online a matter of reputational and commercial concern.
The Delhi High Court’s interim protection marks another significant development in the ongoing debate around celebrity identity, AI misuse and the legal limits of online content circulation.
