Elon Musk Says He'll Make AI Odyssey After Objecting To Lupita Nyong'o As 'Black Helen Of Troy'

Billionaire Elon Musk has said his AI platform Grok Imagine is developing its own version of The Odyssey, just days after Christopher Nolan’s film opened to a strong global box office.

Musk said the AI-generated film will release before the end of the year and will stay true to Homer’s original work. Posting on X on Wednesday, he wrote, “Before this year ends, Grok Imagine will make a full-length movie of The Odyssey that is historically accurate and true to the art of Homer.”

His post included a three-minute AI-generated clip showing a scene between

Odysseus and Calypso, offering a possible preview of the planned feature-length film.

Hours earlier, Musk had responded to a suggestion about spending $100 million on a film made by Mel Gibson with what some people believe to be historically accurate details and Homeric Greek dialogue. He replied, “I’m down.”

Mel Gibson is an Academy Award-winning actor, who later turned to directing and producing films. He rose to fame in 1980s when he starred in Mad Max.

In 2006, he had given rise to controversies by making anti-semitic comments. In 2010, he faced a domestic violence investigation. He is been known to espouse several right-wing, conservative, and traditionalist ideas.

The announcement comes as Musk continues to criticise Nolan’s version of The Odyssey. In a July 6 post viewed over 1.8 million times, he wrote, “Chris Nolan desecrated Homer and groveled on his knees just to meet the woke rules required to win an Oscar. What a worm.”

He also criticised the casting, backing a post that called Nolan a “coward” for casting Lupita Nyong’o as Helen of Troy, replying “true”. In another post in May, he wrote, “Chris Nolan is an anti-White racist.”

Despite the backlash, Nolan’s film has had a strong opening. According to Comscore Movies, it earned over $264.06 million worldwide in its first weekend, making it one of the biggest openings of the year.
