Meerut, Jun 24 (PTI) A man has been arrested here for allegedly submitting fake life certificates to draw his deceased mother’s freedom fighter and defence pensions for nearly seven years, police said on Wednesday.
Prem Singh, a resident of Shahpur Jadid village, allegedly conspired with some unidentified persons to obtain forged life certificates in the name of his mother, Shanti Devi, who was a freedom fighter, after her death.
Life certificates have to be submitted by pensioners each year to verify they are alive to receive payments.
The money received as freedom fighter pension and pension from the defence department was allegedly withdrawn through ATM transactions, UPI transfers and other means over several years, police said.
A case was registered
at Daurala police station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) on the complaint of the manager of the State Bank of India branch at Sakauti Tanda, police said.
During the investigation, police received a tip-off and arrested Singh from his residence in Shahpur Jadid village on Tuesday, officials said. PTI COR CDN DV DV
