The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) took to X on Sunday (June 21) to announce India’s squad for the three-match ODI series against England, which is scheduled to take place in England next month. The first ODI will be played at Edgbaston in Birmingham on July 14, followed by the second match at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff on July 16. The iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground in London will host the series decider on July 19.
For their first ODI series in England since July 2022, the Indian selectors have picked a strong 15-member squad under the leadership of Shubman Gill, who earlier this week won his maiden ODI series as India captain against Afghanistan.

Star all-rounder Hardik Pandya, who missed the home series against Afghanistan due to injury, was not considered for selection for the England series. However, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah and all-rounder Axar Patel have returned to the squad.
Here’s a look at the changes in India’s ODI squad for the three-match series against England compared to the recently concluded assignment against Afghanistan:
IN: Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah and Axar Patel have returned to India’s ODI squad for the England series. Kohli was also selected for the Afghanistan series but was later ruled out due to an injury sustained during the IPL 2026 final.
Meanwhile, Axar returns after being overlooked for the previous three ODI series against South Africa (November–December 2025), New Zealand (January 2026) and Afghanistan (June 2026). He last played an ODI for India in October 2025 against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
Bumrah, who has 149 wickets in 89 ODIs, is also in line to play his first ODI for India since the 2023 ODI World Cup final against Australia at the Narendra Modi Stadium on November 19, 2023.
Delhi fast bowler Harshit Rana, who was added to India’s squad for the third ODI against Afghanistan, has also been retained for the England series.
OUT: Left-handed batter Yashasvi Jaiswal, spin-bowling all-rounder Harsh Dubey and fast bowler Prince Yadav have been dropped from the squad for the England ODIs.
While the omissions of Dubey and Prince were expected after they failed to make an impact in the home series against Afghanistan, Jaiswal’s exclusion comes as a surprise. The left-handed batter scored an unbeaten century during run chase in the third ODI on Saturday, but despite that effort, he was not considered for a place in the squad announced on Sunday.
RETAINED: As many as 12 players — Shubman Gill, Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, Ishan Kishan, Washington Sundar, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Kuldeep Yadav, Arshdeep Singh, Prasidh Krishna, Gurnoor Brar and Harshit Rana — have retained their places in India’s ODI squad for the marquee series in England.
