Dhanbad (Jharkhand), Apr 1 (PTI) Bodies of all three members of a family were found under debris on Wednesday, a day after their house caved in during a land subsidence in Jharkhand’s Dhanbad district, a police officer said.
Two houses had caved in at Tandabadi Basti under Sonardih police station limits on Tuesday evening, he said.
While three people were inside one of the houses when the incident occurred, no one was in the other.
Baghmara sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Purushottam Singh said, “All three bodies were stuck under the debris. They were retrieved during a rescue operation and sent for postmortem examination.” The deceased family members were a 70-year-old man, a woman (35) and a girl (17). However, their relationship is yet
to be ascertained.
Baghmara MLA Shatrughan Mahto, who visited the place on Tuesday evening, had claimed that at least four houses collapsed in the land subsidence.
He alleged that illegal mining is rampant in the area, which could be a reason for the incident.
Dhanbad Senior Superintendent of Police Prabhat Kumar, however, said that the land subsidence was suspected to have occurred due to rain, and there was no illegal mining in the area. PTI SAN NN NN
