A serious accident occurred on Bannerghatta Road in Bengaluru when a car ran a red light and struck a young cyclist. The incident, captured on a car-mounted dashcam, shows the cyclist being thrown off his bike while the driver flees the scene.
The bicycle was completely destroyed in the collision. Fortunately, the cyclist survived, but the video has sparked widespread outrage online.
Cyclist Hit At High Speed
The dashcam footage opens with a red signal and pedestrians waiting to cross the road. While most vehicles remained stationary, a Swift Dzire sped through the red light and struck the cyclist. Bystanders were shocked and did not immediately intervene, except for the young boy’s friend, who rushed to help him.
Later in the video, a traffic police
officer is seen inspecting the car, while the dashcam owner confronts the driver, warning that the footage will be shared with the Bengaluru City Police.

Online Users Demand Justice
The video, shared on October 3, has received over 1 lakh views on X (formerly Twitter), with many users criticising the driver and calling for strict action.
“Driver’s license should be suspended for a year or the driver should pay a fine of 5 L, and can drive after 6 months. Or the Driver can pay a bribe of 10L and start driving immediately. These 3 options would make the driver to stop wherever he sees, forever!” a user wrote.
“Thar wala hota to murder karke hi jaata,” a comment read.
Others expressed frustration at the lack of civic sense: “For them red light means go at double speed. And see, there is no fear of law.”
Another said, “Until and unless we enforce stricter laws, no one will learn traffic rules and civic sense in our country.”
Some pointed out bystanders’ inaction: “I am shocked more than this that no one came to save the boy, hardly 1-2 came, that’s why all are selfish.”
Several users emphasised the need for cameras and stricter enforcement: “We need cameras everywhere for these people,” and “Typical Indian driver ..increase the speed when sees red light instead of slowing or stopping !!”
Others tagged Bengaluru city police, demanding the driver’s license be revoked.
