Delhi Capitals will face UP Warriorz in their third league match of the Women’s Premier League 2026 season in Navi Mumbai on Wednesday, January 14. The Capitals and the Warriorz are both winless heading into their latest league encounter and are placed at the bottom of the five-team standings.
Led by India’s 2025 World Cup hero Jemimah Rodrigues, the Capitals suffered a heavy loss (by 50 runs) at the hands of the Mumbai Indians in their campaign opener. They then also snatched a defeat from the jaws of victory versus the Gujarat Giants, losing by 4 runs in a thrilling clash. The three-time runners-up require a win to reignite their hopes.
The Warriorz have also had a disappointing start to their run in the league stage. Aussie giant Meg Lanning’s
team suffered a close-fought defeat (by 10 runs) versus the Giants in their opener before going down by nine wickets against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru on Monday (January 12).
Delhi Capitals vs UP Warriorz: Head-To-Head Record
Delhi Capitals have enjoyed an upper hand in this rivalry historically, winning four of the six encounters. The UP Warriorz have emerged triumphant on two occasions.
Delhi Capitals vs UP Warriorz: Key Players To Watch Out For
Nandani Sharma: She bagged figures of 5 for 33, including a rare hat-trick, in the defeat against the Giants. The right-arm seamer became the fourth bowler in WPL history to bag the trio of dismissals off successive balls.
Laura Wolvaardt: The South African batter continued from where she left off in the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 and hammered 77 off just 38 deliveries, including 9 fours and 3 sixes versus the Giants. The Capitals will once again rely heavily on her.
Deepti Sharma: The veteran all-rounder played a good knock of 45 off 35 deliveries to help the Warriorz recover from multiple early blows versus RCB. Deepti remains an important cog in Warriorz’s wheel.
Phoebe Litchfield: She missed out on the match against RCB, but Litchfield had produced a terrific knock of 78 off 40 deliveries versus the Giants. The skilful batter holds the critical No. 3 spot for the Warriorz, who would be hoping she plays another substantial innings.
Which Team Has The Upper Hand?
It’s a difficult one to call given that both teams have had a near-similar campaign so far. The Capitals, however, do remain the stronger of the two sides on paper with their all-around depth and incisive bowling attack. If their top 4 of Lizelle Lee, Shafali Verma, Laura Wolvaardt and Jemimah Rodrigues rise to the occasion collectively, the Capitals have a good chance of registering their first win.
