A major explosives racket was unearthed in Rajasthan’s Tonk district following a targeted operation by the District Special Task Force (DST), leading to the seizure of a large quantity of explosive materials and the arrest of two accused.
According to officials, the DST team recovered 150 kilograms of ammonium nitrate that was being illegally transported in a car.
The explosive substance had been concealed inside sacks of urea fertiliser, allegedly to evade detection during transit.
In addition to the ammonium nitrate, the police also seized 200 highly dangerous explosive cartridges and 1,100 safety fuse wires from the vehicle.
The two accused have been identified as Surendra Patwa and Surendra Mochi, both residents of Bundi district.
The car used
to transport the explosives has also been seized as part of the operation.
Police said the accused were allegedly supplying explosives from Bundi to Tonk.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs, the DST intercepted the vehicle in the Baroni police station area of Tonk.
Upon checking the vehicle, the team discovered the concealed explosive materials and apprehended the suspects on the spot.
Officials stated that the seizure points to a well-planned attempt to transport and distribute explosive materials, raising serious security concerns.
The accused are currently being questioned to ascertain the supply chain, procurement methods, and possible end-use of the explosives.
Further investigation is underway to determine the source of the ammonium nitrate and other explosive materials, as well as to establish whether the racket has links to a wider network operating across districts.
