Stand-up comedian Samay Raina is back in the spotlight with his new YouTube special Still Alive, marking his return months after the controversy surrounding India’s Got Latent. While the set has drawn praise for its candid tone, it has now also sparked an online debate over alleged joke similarities.
Samay Raina Returns With ‘Still Alive’
In the 1-hour 21-minute special, Samay reflects on the fallout from the India’s Got Latent controversy, which had triggered widespread backlash after podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia asked a contestant an inappropriate question, leading to multiple FIRs.
Using humour as a lens, Samay addresses the impact the incident had on him, including his parents’ reaction and his own mental health during the period.
Allegations
of Joke Similarity Surface
Even as Still Alive received appreciation from many viewers, a section of social media users has now pointed out a particular segment from the special that they claim resembles a joke by American comedian Dave Chappelle.
An X user shared a clip comparing Samay’s “flight attendant” joke with a similar bit reportedly performed by Chappelle years ago. The joke revolves around how passengers instinctively look toward flight attendants during turbulence, and how their reactions can influence the mood onboard.

Internet Divided Over the Claim
The clip quickly went viral, triggering mixed reactions online. While some users criticised Samay for allegedly borrowing material, others defended him, arguing that such observational humour is common across stand-up.
One user wrote, “It’s a very evergreen joke, he’s a comedian, doesn’t mean he can’t crack an old joke.” Another added, “There’s nothing wrong with taking inspiration from experienced comedians. Samay Raina delivered it brilliantly.”
At the same time, some pointed out that joke overlaps are not unusual in the comedy circuit, especially with widely relatable themes.
No Response From Samay Yet
As the debate continues to unfold online, Samay Raina has not issued any statement addressing the allegations so far.
For now, Still Alive remains both a comeback moment and a talking point, drawing attention not just for its content, but also for the conversations it has sparked.
