India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted rainfall after 107 days in many parts of Delhi and NCR on January 22 and 23.
In a post on X, IMD said: “Due to intense Western disturbance, light to moderate
rainfall/snowfall at most places with isolated heavy falls likely over Western Himalayan region and light to moderate rainfall at a few places on plains of northwest India on 22nd & 23rd January, 2026. Hailstorm, lightning & gusty winds at isolated places also likely over the region during same period.”

ANI quoted IMD scientist Dr Naresh Kumar saying, “Due to two western disturbances, rain and snowfall are expected in the western Himalayas, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand in the coming five days.”
“There is a possibility of rain in Punjab, Haryana, Western UP, Delhi NCR, North Rajasthan on the 22nd and 23rd. Dense and very dense fog will also prevail in Punjab, Haryana, North Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. It will prevail till coming two to three days,” he said.
He, however, pointed out that cold wave is not expected to return in Delhi NCR or North-West India.
“Dense fog will prevail in Punjab, Haryana, UP, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan where dense fog is expected in the coming two to three days. Visibility may be between 50 to 200 metres in the early morning for a few hours and for that, we have given yellow alert in these regions,” he added.
The IMD has further predicted that dense fog condition will continue during morning and night hours in isolated pockets of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh on January 22. Cold wave conditions will very likely happen in isolated pockets of Himachal Pradesh on January 21. Cold day conditions are very likely in isolated pockets of Himachal Pradesh on January 23.
According to Times of India, IMD has sent messages to chief secretaries of Himachal Pradesh, Punjab and Haryana stating fairly widespread to widespread rainfall/snowfall was likely over Himachal Pradesh during January 22-23, and isolated to scattered light to moderate rainfall/snowfall was likely during January 24-25.
