New Delhi, Jul 24 (PTI) Eighteen metro stations were closed in Delhi on Friday, amid the ongoing Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protest near Jantar Mantar here, the DMRC said.
While 17 stations were closed at 7.30 am, the 18th, New Delhi, was closed hours later.
Besides New Delhi, Lok Kalyan Marg, Rajiv Chowk, Patel Chowk, Ramakrishna Ashram Marg, Barakhambha Road, Supreme Court, Seva Teerth, Janpath, Mandi House, Central Secretariat, ITO, Delhi Gate, Indraprastha, Khan Market, Jor Bagh, Shivaji Stadium and Jhandewalan stations have been closed.
This is the fourth consecutive day when multiple metro stations have remained closed in Delhi.
In a post on X late Thursday night, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) said the 17 stations will remain closed
from 7.30 am till further instructions due to security reasons.
The interchange facility will continue to be available at Rajiv Chowk, Mandi House and Central Secretariat stations, it said.
In another post on Friday afternoon, the DMRC said, “New Delhi metro station has been closed till further instructions. No interchange facility shall be available at this station. Any inconvenience is deeply regretted.” The New Delhi station is a key interchange point connecting Yellow and Airport Express lines of the metro and provides direct access to New Delhi railway station The closure of metro stations has caused inconvenience to office-goers, students and other commuters.
On Wednesday, the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) moved the apex court, saying the closure of several metro stations had made it difficult for lawyers, litigants and court staff to access the court complex. PTI AHD DIV DIV
