The Masti franchise is gearing up for its long-awaited comeback with Mastiii 4, bringing back the beloved trio of Riteish Deshmukh, Vivek Oberoi and Aftab Shivdasani nearly a decade after the last installment.
In an exclusive interaction with IMDb, Oberoi and Shivdasani revisited the chaos, chemistry and comedy that have defined the series since its debut in 2004—and also surprised fans with unexpected casting wishes.
Aftab Shivdasani on Why Working With Riteish and Vivek Still Feels Like ‘Not Working’
During their chat, Aftab Shivdasani reflected warmly on the enduring bond between the three actors. He described their reunion as a return to an irreplaceable creative comfort zone.
“I’m very happy working with Riteish and Vivek. I think it’s perhaps the best experience of my life in this industry,” he said. “We’ve done four films together and every film has only gotten better. When we’re working, we’re not really working and that’s the beauty of it.”
This camaraderie has long been considered one of the reasons Masti continues to resonate with audiences across generations, evolving from a cult adult comedy into a nostalgia-laden franchise.
Vivek Oberoi Wants Jennifer Lopez in the Franchise
In a segment where the actors were asked which Hollywood star they’d bring into Mastiii 4 if they had a “free pass,” Vivek Oberoi didn’t hesitate.
“Jennifer Lopez!” he declared. “I would look at J.Lo and say, ‘J.Lo, love visa le lo!’ She is incredible.”
Shivdasani offered his own surprising choice: Brad Pitt. “Not because we want to look at Brad Pitt,” he clarified with a laugh, “but I think it’ll be great to have him with us.”
The light-hearted moment highlighted the playful rapport between the co-stars—a hallmark of the franchise.
Vivek Oberoi Reveals the One Film Shoot He Wishes He Could Relive
Oberoi also became briefly emotional while recalling memories from Masti (2004), the film that cemented the trio’s comedic chemistry. He said the one project he wishes he could relive is the first film—only without the accident that had caused him a severe leg injury.
“As long as my leg was in one piece, Masti 1 was so much fun,” he shared, hinting at the mix of joy and pain that defined that chapter of his life.
The actors also revealed that they have a secret WhatsApp group, but refused to disclose the name. “We’d have to kill you before sharing it,” they joked.
Aftab Recalls Acting With Suresh Oberoi at Age 10
In one of the most touching revelations, Shivdasani shared that he had worked with Vivek’s father, veteran actor Suresh Oberoi, when he was just ten. The film was C.I.D. (1990), starring Vinod Khanna.
“I had most of my scenes as a child actor with Suresh Oberoi Sir, and I cherish it because we all know what a legend he is,” he said.
Vivek Oberoi Opens Up About His Dance Background
Oberoi also surprised many by speaking about his early passion for dance. As a college student, he won numerous competitions and frequently performed with the now-renowned choreographer duo Bosco-Caesar. He later worked professionally with them and even assisted Farah Khan and Ganesh Hegde before entering films.
