The spam bot issue on Elon Musk-owned X (formerly Twitter) has been around for a while and people have pretty much given up on the problem getting a solution. However, the platform is now ready to start the clean up process and assures that in the next few weeks it will get rid of all the spam bots that are flooding your direct messages (DMs).
The update was given by Nikita Bier, who is said to be the head of product at X, as per the profile. Bier even stated that the platform has already removed over 1.7 million automated spam bots from DMs and he claims the experience of using the feature will improve in the coming days.
This week we purged 1.7 million bots engaging in reply spam. You should start noticing improvements in the coming days. We
will be focusing on DM spam next.

Spam Removal On X: Much Needed Update
Elon Musk has been promising to fix the mess around spam bot accounts that plague the experience of using the platform. Removing spam is critical for X and helps it become a reliable option for millions.
If you are a regular user on X and visit the DM section, you would have noticed hundreds of spam accounts with suspicious links targeting users. In fact, bots are also the reason why some of your posts might not be getting the right visibility and reach. Bier claims this is ‘direct attack’ on those ruining the experience as well as authenticity of the platform.
Musk has built a core team where Bier is leading the charge to make the experience smoother and also cater to demands for encryption in chats which is pointless if spam bots are running amok on the platform.
He also mentioned that his team are working on the Android X app from scratch and they are even beefing up the engineering team to keep enhancing the platform with new features and improvements like these.
