Kumar Sanu Had An Affair With Kunickaa Sadanand When Wife Rita Was Pregnant: 'He Was Staying With Her'

has stirred old wounds — with Sanu’s ex-wife, Rita Bhattacharya, now hitting back publicly.

Rita Bhattacharya’s sharp response

Rita, who was married to Sanu until their divorce in 1994, told a paparazzi outlet that Kunickaa was equally part of the affair. “When she (Kunickaa) spoke about Sanuji having an affair with someone else, she was also doing the same. When Sanu Ji was staying with her, they were having an affair, he was married to me, I was pregnant with my son,” Rita recalled.

Questioning Kunickaa’s ‘27 years of grief’

Rita also took issue with Kunickaa’s remarks about carrying grief for nearly three decades. “She is telling everyone she was suppressing her grief for 27 years, you have a 26-year-old son. Where did you get so much grief? When you have a 26-year-old son, how are you suppressing grief from 27 years? You can marry a 70-year-old woman and have a 26-year-old son? Not in my country,” she said.

Kunickaa’s side of the story

Earlier, Kunickaa told Siddharth Kanan that she had been “like a wife” to Sanu during their time together, managing his clothes, shows and appearances. “It felt like a relationship similar to Shakuntala and Dushyant. But later, I discovered things about him that broke my heart,” she admitted.

Kunickaa’s son, Ayaan Lall, had also recently opened up about his mother’s relationship in an interview with Siddharth Kannan. Ayaan said, “When I had girlfriends, my mother had boyfriends.” Ayaan revealed that Kumar Sanu and Kunickaa’s affair began when she was 27 years old. He said he wasn’t born then learnt about their relationship much later.

Ayaan was asked about when he found out that his mother had dated Kumar Sanu. Ayaan said, “When I noticed that she was singing his songs at home all day. I’m just kidding. But she actually adores him as a singer. She still sings his songs. People are saying that the affair lasted 27 years, but what she actually said was that she was 27 years old when it happened. It lasted a few years, and she had me when she was 35.”

Ayaan added, “She genuinely loves the artiste. She doesn’t love the man anymore, I can promise. And my mother isn’t the obsessive type. It isn’t an ego thing. When I googled him and asked her about him, she said, ‘He was a very important man in my life. I used to look at him as a soulmate, and everyone should experience that kind of love once in their life. It was toxic. Very, very toxic.’”
