Border 2, headlined by Sunny Deol along with Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh and Ahan Shetty, continues its dominant theatrical run as it completes six days at the Indian box office. The war drama, which released on Friday, January 23, has now grossed the Rs 230 crore mark in India, officially breaking the previous record held by Dhurandhar.
Directed by Anurag Singh, Border 2 serves as a spiritual successor to JP Dutta’s 1997 cult classic Border. The film also stars Mona Singh, Sonam Bajwa, Anya Singh and Medha Rana in key roles. Despite receiving mixed reviews from critics, the film has found massive acceptance among audiences, driven by patriotic fervour, nostalgia and Sunny Deol’s commanding screen presence.
Border 2 Sees Expected Dip On Day 6
According to early estimates from trade
tracking portal Sacnilk, Border 2 collected approximately Rs 14 crore on Day 6. This marked a drop of nearly 40 percent compared to its previous day’s earnings of Rs 23.31 crore — a decline that trade experts consider routine for a weekday after a blockbuster opening weekend.
With this, the film’s total net domestic collection now stands at around Rs 213 crore in six days, firmly placing it among the biggest Hindi releases of recent times. The film had already amassed a staggering total in its first five days, setting the stage for a historic run.
Industry insiders remain confident that Border 2 will witness a strong surge once again in its second weekend. Given its sustained buzz and strong word-of-mouth, the film is expected to continue its upward trajectory and could potentially aim for the Rs 500-crore mark in India if momentum holds.
Border 2 shines a spotlight on real-life heroes from the 1971 India–Pakistan war. Varun Dhawan portrays Param Vir Chakra awardee Major Hoshiar Singh Dahiya, while Diljit Dosanjh essays the role of Flying Officer Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon — the only Indian Air Force officer to receive the Param Vir Chakra. Sunny Deol plays Lt Col Fateh Singh Kaler, inspired by Major General Hardev Singh Kaler, and Ahan Shetty appears as Lt Cdr M. S. Rawat, representing the Indian Navy’s role in the conflict.
The film’s music has also struck a chord with audiences. Composer Mithoon has reimagined several iconic tracks from Border, originally composed by Anu Malik. Classics such as Sandese Aate Hai, To Chalun, Hamen Jab Se Mohabbat and Hindustan Hindustan return as Ghar Kab Aaoge, Jaate Hue Lamhon, Mohabbat Ho Gayi Hai and Hindustan Meri Jaan. New tracks including Ishq Da Chehra, Tara Rum Pum Pum, Mitti Ke Bete, Border and Pyaari Lage further add to the film’s emotional weight.
