The film fraternity and political leaders gathered in Delhi on Thursday evening to honour the late Dharmendra at a solemn prayer meet hosted by his wife and BJP MP Hema Malini. Among those offering tributes
was daughter Esha Deol, who later took to social media to share an emotional remembrance of her father, capturing the depth of his legacy and the affection he inspired across generations.
Posting on Instagram, Esha shared a touching video montage celebrating Dharmendra’s most unforgettable on-screen moments. The tribute also included a rare and cherished clip of the legendary Dilip Kumar praising Dharmendra during an award ceremony, underscoring the immense respect the actor commanded among his peers.
Dharmendra’s passing on November 24 marked a profound loss for Indian cinema. Widely loved for his charm, versatility, and natural screen presence, Dharmendra leaves behind a monumental body of work. His performances in classics such as Sholay, Chupke Chupke, Aya Sawan Jhoom Ke, Ayee Milan Ki Bela and Anupama remain evergreen favourites.
Leaders and celebrities across the country paid their respects. Prime Minister Narendra Modi honoured him on X, calling him “an iconic film personality, a phenomenal actor who brought charm and depth to every role.” Superstar Rajinikanth also shared an emotional farewell message, remembering Dharmendra as a dear friend and “a golden heart.”
While the early 2000s brought mixed fortunes with films like Kaise Kahoon Ke… Pyaar Hai and Kis Kis Ki Kismat, Dharmendra staged a remarkable comeback in 2007. His appearances in Life in a… Metro, Apne and Johnny Gaddaar reasserted his star power, winning both audiences and critics.
In 2023, he once again stole hearts in Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, delivering one of the year’s most beloved performances. Beyond films, Dharmendra embraced multiple formats, including his stint as a judge on India’s Got Talent in 2011 and his recent role in the period drama Taj: Divided by Blood.
He also charmed viewers in Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya, starring Shahid Kapoor and Kriti Sanon. His final film, Ikkis, set to release on December 25, will serve as a final cinematic farewell to one of Indian cinema’s greatest icons.
