India’s Kuldeep Yadav continued his impressive stint in English domestic One-Day Cup cricket for Yorkshire, dismissing England Test captain Ben Stokes during the One-Day Cup Group B clash against Durham at Clifton Park Ground in York on Friday. The left-arm wrist-spinner produced a frugal spell of 2/23 from his 10 overs, helping bowl Durham out for just 165 in 48.1 overs.
Stokes, Durham’s captain and biggest batting threat, endured a difficult outing against Kuldeep’s guile. After spending 39 deliveries at the crease for just 12 runs, the England all-rounder attempted a reverse sweep to break the shackles. However, he could only guide the ball towards backward point, where George Hill completed a comfortable catch.

Kuldeep’s second wicket came in the form of Colin Ackermann, who looked set after scoring 26 before becoming another victim of the Indian spinner.
The performance further underlined Kuldeep’s effectiveness in English conditions during his short county stint. The 31-year-old is currently representing Yorkshire on a five-match contract in the One-Day Cup and has made an immediate impact with his control, accuracy and ability to pick up crucial wickets.
Kuldeep pushing case for consistent chances with India
The now Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) man has struggled for regular chances with the Indian team, leading to this stint in the English summer.
“I have an issue with the kind of treatment that Kuldeep Yadav has been given,” Ravichandran Ashwin said recently. “We’re having two fingerspinners in conditions that might not have suited spin necessarily. Come South Africa, you will need Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel and Washy [Sundar]. Both of them [Axar and Washington] got fifties and saw us home. But I think there is place only for one of the two players in the future. I would love to see Kuldeep handed better treatment because he is a matchwinner.
With India set to travel to Sri Lanka, every good performance here, even in a different format, would make his case stronger.
