Delhi residents are likely to face another hot day on Monday, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting mainly clear skies and temperatures reaching around 42 degrees Celsius.
The weather department has predicted a minimum temperature of around 28 degrees Celsius, indicating warm conditions even during the early morning and night hours.
Meanwhile, Sunday’s maximum temperature settled at 41.6 degrees Celsius, which was 1.6 degrees above the seasonal average, while the minimum stood at 27.7 degrees Celsius, PTI reported.
Fresh Heat Spell Expected Across North India
The forecast comes amid expectations of a fresh spell of intense heat across large parts of north and central India. Weather reports suggest temperatures in several regions
could rise sharply over the next few days, with the heat expected to peak around June 10 and 11.
Although parts of Delhi received rain on Sunday evening after a scorching day, the brief spell is unlikely to provide lasting relief as dry and hot conditions are expected to persist.
The IMD defines a heatwave in the plains when the maximum temperature exceeds 40 degrees Celsius and is at least 4.5 degrees above normal, or when it reaches 45 degrees Celsius irrespective of the normal temperature.
Relief may arrive later in the week, with forecasts indicating that a western disturbance could influence weather conditions around June 13, bringing cooler temperatures and the possibility of rain.
Meanwhile, Delhi’s air quality remained in the “moderate” category on Sunday, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) recorded at 144, according to Central Pollution Control Board data.
