The National Testing Agency (NTA) on Tuesday cancelled the NEET (UG) 2026 exam, which was held on May 3, following allegations of a paper leak. With the government asking the CBI to conduct a detailed probe into the matter, actor Kamal Haasan has spoken in support of the 22 lakh students who worked really hard to appear for the exam and clear it.
Kamal Haasan took to his X account and, while reacting strongly against the decision, wrote, “The hard work and dreams of 22 lakh students who studied day and night for the NEET entrance exam have been shattered by criminal conspiracies. Who will take responsibility for this mental agony?”
Further questioning the government, he added, “To date, I don’t recall even a single NEET exam being conducted without
allegations of malpractices. That’s why we are fighting to bring education back under the state list.” The actor concluded his post by writing, “Indian students must be protected from this unjust NEET exam and the mafia operating behind it.”
Reason behind NEET cancellation
NEET (UG) is the nationwide entrance examination conducted for students who wish to take admission to medical colleges. The examination conducted on May 3, 2026, was cancelled after reports of a paper leak made headlines.
In a statement on X, the agency revealed, “On the basis of inputs subsequently examined by NTA in coordination with central agencies, and the investigative findings shared by the law enforcement agencies, the National Testing Agency, with the approval of the Government of India, has decided to cancel the NEET (UG) 2026 examination conducted on 3 May 2026, and to re-conduct the examination on dates that will be notified separately.”
“Such repeated failures expose serious gaps in the system responsible for conducting one of the country’s most important examinations,” Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA)’s national chairperson, Dr Jaideep Kumar Choudhary, said in his statement after the news came out.
Kamal Haasan on the work front
The actor is currently busy finishing the shoot of Kalki 2. Written and directed by Nag Ashwin, the Kalki 2898 AD franchise is produced by Vyjayanthi Movies. With Prabhas leading the saga, Amitabh Bachchan and Kamal Haasan returning in key roles, and Sai Pallavi joining the next chapter, Kalki 2 is already shaping up to be one of the most awaited Indian films of 2027.
