Thane, May 11 (PTI) A fire broke out in the electric meter room of a residential building in Maharashtra’s Thane city on Monday, destroying 40 meters, civic officials said.
No person was injured in the blaze, which started at 4.08 am on the ground floor of the seven-storey ‘Anand Vilha’ building located in the Charai area, Thane’s regional disaster management cell (RDMC) chief Yasin Tadvi said.
Residents of 40 flats rushed out to safety after the blaze erupted.
Fire personnel, RDMC staff and police rushed to the spot after being alerted.
“A total of 40 electric meters were gutted in the fire,” the official stated.
The fire brigade prevented the flames from spreading to the upper floors of the residential structure, and the blaze was doused by 4.40
am, he said.
A short-circuit in the electrical wiring is suspected to have triggered the fire, he said, adding that a probe was on to ascertain the exact cause of the blaze.
The building’s power supply was temporarily disconnected as a precautionary measure during cooling operations. PTI COR GK
