Gurugram, Aug 1 (PTI) Gurugram traffic police introduced an AI-powered smart traffic warning screen, which will flash vehicles’ pending challans, expired pollution certificates and registration details as they pass the junction, on a trial at Sohna Chowk, officials said on Saturday.
Launched as a pilot project under a CSR initiative, the system, by scanning the number plates of vehicles passing the junction, will flash information on the screen about their pending challans, expired Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificates and registration details, a senior police official said.
As soon as an e-challan is issued for a vehicle, its registration number will appear on the LED screen, he said, adding that if the vehicle has previously been fined,
its complete history will also be displayed on the screen, including the number of challans issued to date and the amount of outstanding fines.
Traffic Police officials believe that displaying information about traffic violators in public spaces will encourage motorists to drive more responsibly and adhere to traffic rules. This is expected to promote road safety and reduce accidents.
“If this experiment launched at Sohna Chowk proves successful, similar smart screens will be installed at other major and busy intersections across the city in the future,” said a senior traffic police officer. PTI COR SHS
