Ace India allrounder Deepti Sharma has said that the wicket at the BCA Stadium in Vadodara looks good for run-scoring and if the team get a chance to bat first in the first ODI against Zimbabwe on Friday, they will look to post a 300-plus score.
India swept Zimbabwe 3-0 to give Smriti Mandhana a winning start to her captaincy stint and the reigning ODI world champions will be expected to carry that momentum into the upcoming series in Vadodara.
Meanwhile, Deepti was made the ODI vice-captain to Mandhana after Harmanpreet Kaur relinquished captaincy.
“The pitch is very good. From the training session we had, we know it will be a good batting track. We have played so many matches and our team knows very well how the wickets are going to be and what
the conditions will be,” Deepti said while speaking at the pre-match press conference.
“So, we are pretty sure about what to expect. We will think of scoring more than 300. But it will still depend on what happens after the toss and what kind of wicket we get,” Deepti added.
The star all-rounder kept India’s playing combination under wraps for the series opener, saying that the final call would be made closer to the game.
“The combination will be known just before the game. It will be good for the team if we can settle on a good combination, whether as bowlers or batters. Whatever combination we choose will be good for the team,” Deepti said.
“Whether it’s T20Is or ODIs, we always try to do well as a team and we are doing that. There is no need for unnecessary changes. Whatever we have been doing well, we want to repeat,” Deepti added.
The star all-rounder warned against underestimating Zimbabwe as well, highlighting the presence of new cricketers in the team and the team’s performances in T20Is.
