Amitabh Bachchan has decided to use his property in Ayodhya for a project dedicated to his late father, poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan. Big B has applied to the Ayodhya Development Authority (ADA) for permission to build a dharamshala in his father’s memory. The proposed facility will have more than 20 rooms and will come up along Dashrath Path, within The Sarayu project.
Amitabh had purchased the land for around Rs 15 crore. The dharamshala is expected to provide accommodation for people visiting Ayodhya.
The project is currently going through the approval process. The ADA has put out a public notice asking for objections to the building plan. People have 15 days to raise any concerns. Once that period is over, the authority will take the plan forward
as per the required process.
Construction is expected to start in October after the necessary clearance is received.
ADA Vice Chairman Anurag Jain confirmed that Amitabh Bachchan’s application had been received. He said, “prominent figures across the country are contributing to Ayodhya’s development.” Jain also said that the proposed dharamshala will have more than 20 rooms and is currently open to public objections. He added that the plan will be approved after the formal process is completed and that the facility will add to the accommodation options available for devotees.
Harivansh Rai Bachchan was a celebrated Hindi poet and translator. He was awarded the Padma Bhushan and remains best known for his iconic 1935 work Madhushala. He also translated several plays by William Shakespeare into Hindi.
Amitabh’s mother, Teji Bachchan, was a social worker and theatre performer. She later served as a director of the Film Finance Corporation of India.
Meanwhile, Amitabh continues to be seen on television as the host of Kaun Banega Crorepati 18. The first episode featured Aamir Khan, Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta, who appeared on the show while promoting their film Batwara 1947.
His most recent theatrical release was Rajinikanth’s 2024 Tamil film Vettaiyan. He also appeared in Nag Ashwin’s sci-fi film Kalki 2898 AD, which starred Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Kamal Haasan, Disha Patani, Shobana and Saswata Chatterjee.
Amitabh will also return in Kalki 2898 AD: Part 2, alongside Prabhas and Kamal Haasan. The film’s female lead has not yet been announced following Deepika Padukone’s exit.
