Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is set to table the Economic Survey of India today at 11 AM on Day 2 of the Budget Session of Parliament. The survey will provide an overview of the country’s economic situation.
The Economic Survey is released every year before the Budget and outlines growth trends, challenges, and policy directions. It is expected to offer clues about the government’s priorities before Sitharaman presents the Union Budget 2026 in the Lok Sabha on February 1.
This will be a landmark moment for the Finance Minister, as she is preparing to present her ninth consecutive budget, the highest number by any finance minister. The upcoming budget is expected to focus on measures to support economic growth, improve investment, and address
global economic uncertainty.
The session opened on Wednesday with President Droupadi Murmu addressing a joint sitting of Parliament. In her speech, she spoke about the government’s vision for social justice, inclusive growth, and the goal of a developed India.
Political differences also surfaced on the first day of the session. Opposition parties pressed for discussions on issues such as the VB-G RAM-G Bill and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR). However, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said these matters would not be discussed during the current session, noting that they had already been taken up in the winter session.
With the Economic Survey scheduled to be tabled and the Union Budget just days away, Parliament is expected to see sharp debates in the coming days. The Budget Session will continue as lawmakers examine the government’s economic plans and policy direction for the year ahead.
