Patna, Jun 21 (PTI) Lakhs of aspirants in Bihar appeared for the NEET-UG re-exam on Sunday amid heavy security arrangements, officials said.
The original exam, conducted in May, was cancelled following widespread allegations of a question paper leak.
The National Testing Agency (NTA) conducted the re-exam across 551 cities in the country and 14 overseas locations in English and 12 Indian languages.
According to NTA, more than 95,000 exam rooms have been equipped with CCTV surveillance.
A total of 1,38,560 CCTV cameras have been installed, with feeds monitored virtually at the national, state and ministry levels, officials said.
The exam, which started at 2 pm, will end at 5.15 pm, with the provision of an additional 15 minutes this time.
Heavy deployment
of security personnel and installation of surveillance equipment were made to ensure the smooth conduct of the exam in the state.
“Best possible arrangements have been made for the exam,” Patna District Magistrate Kundan Kumar told reporters ahead of the test.
The state government allowed free travel for all NEET-UG candidates in state-run buses on the day of the exam.
According to East Central Railway, six special trains operated on Sunday for the aspirants.
District administrations, the Bihar State Board of Religious Trusts (BSBRT) and several civil society organisations arranged drinking water, sattu, soaked gram and jaggery for candidates and their parents to help them cope with the summer heat.
In Sitamarhi district, an inmate lodged in the divisional jail arrived at an exam centre in handcuffs to take the test.
The inmate, identified as Afzad Ali, is a resident of Kanhauli Bagaha village in the district.
DSP Rajeev Kumar Singh said the youth is lodged in jail in connection with an assault case and was brought from the prison to the exam centre in compliance with a court order. PTI SUK MNB
