Bengaluru, Apr 30 (PTI) Bengaluru’s popular independent bookstore, Bookworm, also bore the brunt of heavy rains coupled with a hailstorm that lashed the city on Wednesday evening.
About 4,000–5,000 books worth several lakhs were damaged due to flooding at the bookstore located on Church Street.
“Due to heavy rain in Bengaluru, we lost 4,000 to 5,000 books,” Bookworm said in an Instagram post, along with pictures of the flooded store.
The thunderous downpour and stormy winds cooled the city, which had seen temperatures soar to 37 degrees Celcius, but also left a trail of destruction and disrupted normal life.
Following Bookworm’s social media post highlighting the loss, several readers and visitors expressed concern and offered to help, contribute
and support the store.
On Thursday, Bookworm thanked its patrons and well-wishers for their concern and said it was working to restore normal operations.
“We wish to take this opportunity to thank all our esteemed patrons and well-wishers for your concern about Bookworm. The words of support and offers of help have been truly overwhelming for us, and we are grateful for your continued support,” it posted on X.
“We are working to bring the store back to normal, but you can visit at any time for your book needs or kindly call and message us. Once again, all of us at Bookworm thank you for keeping us in your thoughts,” it added. PTI KSU SSK
