We’ve heard of all kinds of football injuries over the years — crunching tackles, training-ground mishaps, freak accidents, even goalpost collisions.
But an injury… from FIFA?
Yep. Cole Palmer may have just unlocked a brand-new entry in the Football Injuries Hall of Fame.
Chelsea teammate Marc Cucurella all but confirmed what fans were already joking about — that Palmer’s bizarre toe injury might’ve come from a rage-filled moment after losing a FIFA match.
Last week, Palmer stubbed the little toe on his left foot against a door at home, just one day before he was finally set to return to training after two months out with a groin issue. Talk about tragic timing.
Cucurella couldn’t resist the dig.
Marc Cucurella on how Cole Palmer injured his toe:
“To be fair, I don’t know. He’s running because I think he lost a FIFA game or something like this. I think!” 🤣 pic.twitter.com/oHn8yoAw6n

“To be fair, I couldn’t believe it. These things can happen sometimes… It’s a big upset for us because he was near to playing. Now he needs to rest.”
He then doubled down when asked about the viral FIFA rumour:
“To be honest… I don’t believe it! [laughs] But these things happen.”
Fans aren’t buying the official line either. A stubbed toe the night before he returns from injury? After a FIFA loss? It’s too perfect.
Still, the good news: Enzo Maresca insists it’s not serious. Palmer has already returned to light individual work, touching the ball and easing back into rhythm.
And Chelsea desperately need him.
Their week ahead? Barcelona in the Champions League on Tuesday. Arsenal in the league on Sunday. Not exactly fixtures you want to face without your star chance creator.
