Security arrangements will be intensified around the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi for the final day of the Ranji Trophy Group D match between Delhi and Jammu and Kashmir, following a high-intensity
blast near the Red Fort, which is only a few kilometres from the stadium.
Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) secretary Ashok Sharma confirmed the development to news agency PTI on Monday. He also mentioned that he would be contacting Delhi Police authorities to request additional security deployment outside the stadium premises.
“Security to be beefed up near Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium (renamed Arun Jaitley Stadium) on the final day of the Ranji Trophy match between Delhi and Jammu & Kashmir. I would be getting in touch with Delhi Police authorities and request them to deploy additional security outside the stadium premises,” Sharma said.
A high-intensity explosion occurred in a moving car near the Red Fort metro station on Monday evening, destroying several vehicles and killing at least 10 people. Twenty-four people were reported injured in the blast, which took place during a busy evening when the area was crowded.
At the time of writing this piece, there were several contrasting claims made around the incident, including speculations of a possible terror attack.
Delhi’s hopes of a first win this season suffered a major blow as they collapsed dramatically against Jammu & Kashmir on Monday. After Ayush Badoni (72) and Ayush Doseja stitched a 107-run stand to steady the innings, Vivrant Sharma’s superb catch triggered a stunning collapse — Delhi losing six wickets for 35 runs to be bowled out for 178.
J&K spinners Vanshaj Sharma (6/68) and Sahil Lotra (3/73) shared nine wickets to put their team in command. Chasing 179, J&K reached 55 for 2 by stumps, just 124 runs away from sealing what would be their first-ever Ranji Trophy victory over Delhi, leaving the hosts facing another home disappointment.
