Manisha Koirala Appeals To India And China Amid Nepal Flash Floods: ‘We Are Facing The Brunt...’

Manisha Koirala has appealed for India, China and Nepal to work together as Nepal reels from devastating flash floods that have killed hundreds and left thousands missing. The actress, who was born in Kathmandu, also urged the international community to continue supporting the Himalayan nation while stressing that tourism must not come to a halt because of the disaster.

Manisha spoke about the crisis at ‘In Solidarity with Nepal’, a special event led by spiritual leader Sadhguru on Sunday, August 30.

Manisha Koirala Calls For India, China And Nepal To ‘Join Hands’

Speaking at the event, Manisha raised concerns about global warming and the increasing threat posed by climate-related disasters. She called for cooperation between Nepal and its two

neighbours, India and China, to find ways of dealing with such calamities.

In a video shared by ANI, Manisha said, “We are facing the brunt of global warming. What should be our next step? I request that we, as human beings, our great neighbors, China, India, Nepal, somehow join hands in this and do something collectively. We are so linked with each other. And to try and avoid something like this. I hope and pray. Without making sense of this disastrous moment, we become better people. We help others just like we’ll help our own.”

The actress also appealed to people to extend help to those affected by the floods.

Manisha Urges International Community To Continue Supporting Nepal

Manisha further addressed the international community and asked people not to view Nepal solely through the tragedy it is currently facing. She particularly stressed the importance of tourism for the country.

“Other than this, I want to request all the international communities… I pray that your love and support continue. We, as a nation, need people to come to our country. We don’t want to be known as ‘Oh, this country is full of disasters’. We need you all to travel. Yes, there’s a calamity in Tibet and Nepal border. But tourism is a breath,” she said.

Manisha was born in Kathmandu and belongs to a prominent political family in Nepal. Her appeal comes as rescue operations continue across areas affected by the floods.

Nepal Flash Flood Death Toll Rises To 781

The scale of the disaster has continued to grow since the floods struck on August 26. By Sunday, the death toll had climbed to 781, while officials said more than 2,500 people remained missing.

Search and rescue operations entered their fifth day on August 30, with teams continuing to recover bodies and search for those unaccounted for.

The floods were triggered after an ice-rock avalanche caused by a glacial collapse near the Nepal-Tibet border sent an enormous volume of water, mud and debris rushing downstream.

Parts of northern and central Nepal were subsequently hit by the torrent. Towns and villages were destroyed, crucial infrastructure suffered extensive damage and hydropower facilities were washed away.

As Nepal deals with the immediate human and infrastructural toll of the calamity, Manisha’s appeal focused on both relief efforts and cooperation between neighbouring countries. She also asked the international community to keep supporting Nepal and continue travelling to parts of the country unaffected by the disaster.
