‘Pata Nahi What I’m Going To...’: Karan Johar Says He Was Advised To 'Go Abroad' If He Wants To Find Love

Karan Johar is one of the most loved filmmakers and has given a few of the biggest hits, all in some way talking about relationships and love, but in real life, he often finds himself craving a partner’s

support. Karan has always been open about his personal life and has often spoken about his turbulent love life. In a fresh conversation with Sania Mirza on her podcast, Karan Johar opened up about how he was suggested to move abroad if he wanted a partner.

“There was a point in time when I really wanted love. I wanted companionship. I wanted a relationship. I remember talking about this with you. And I went through all kinds of dynamics, a broken heart, and one-sided love. I even made a film on it. That was cathartic but also beautiful for me; it helped me heal. I waited. I realised, ‘Is somebody going to love me for who I am, or for what I bring to the table?’ Then you start doubting yourself,” he said.

He further continued, “And everyone says, ‘Oh, put yourself out there.’ I’m still looking for what ‘there’ is, I don’t know where that ‘there’ is. They are like, ‘Oh, go abroad,’ they say. And I’m like, abroad jaakar pata nahi what I’m going to find? And abroad where, yaar? I live here. I have a mom and two kids; I have to live here. So I’ve gone through those beats. And I do get lonely. It’s a reality.”

Giving a filmy touch to what he was saying, Karan, being himself, said, “We were created in pairs. Ab Rab ne mere liye jodi nahi banayi. (Now, God hasn’t made a match for me).” He added, “And they say never say never. When that happens, my arms are wide open, like Shah Rukh Khan!”

The filmmaker continued and said he hates going out with couples, and if anybody does PDA in front of him, he feels like killing them. “I’m like, ‘Please get a room!’” Karan shared.

During an episode of Koffee With Karan with Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh, Karan broke down while watching the actors’ wedding video. He admitted that looking at his friends in love makes him want to have a partner of his own. Previously, Karan has admitted to having a one-sided love story and an unfulfilled love. However, he has never revealed the people’s names.
