Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) registered one of the most comprehensive wins in IPL history, defeating Delhi Capitals (DC) by nine wickets in their 2026 clash and recording the second-biggest victory margin (by balls remaining) in the tournament at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Monday (April 27).
Asked to chase only 76, RCB took only 6.3 overs to win, placing this game alongside some of the most one-sided contests the league has seen. Only the Mumbai Indians’ win over Kolkata Knight Riders in the inaugural season of 2008, where they chased 68 runs with 87 balls to spare, ranks higher on the list.
The result was set up entirely by the new-ball spell from Josh Hazlewood and Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who reduced Delhi Capitals to 13 for 6 in the powerplay.
Bhuvneshwar struck with the second ball of the innings, dismissing teenage debutant Sahil Parakh, before Hazlewood removed KL Rahul and Sameer Rizvi off successive deliveries.
Delhi’s top order failed to recover from the early setbacks. Tristan Stubbs and Axar Patel were dismissed cheaply, leaving the side at 8 for 5 inside three overs, another record for fewest deliveries taken for losing half a side.
The wickets continued to fall at regular intervals, with only Abhishek Porel offering some resistance with a 30. Contributions from David Miller (19) and Kyle Jamieson (12) helped Delhi reach 75 in 16.3 overs.
Hazlewood finished with figures of 4 for 12, while Bhuvneshwar returned 3 for 5, accounting for seven of the ten wickets.
Chasing 76, RCB had no difficulty completing the formalities. Virat Kohli (23*) and Jacob Bethell (20) provided a steady start before Bethell was dismissed by an excellent catch from pacer T Natarajan.
The in-form Devdutt Padikkal then ensured there were no further setbacks, scoring an unbeaten 34 to guide the team home in 6.3 overs.
The defeat marked a sharp turnaround for Delhi Capitals, who had scored 264 in their previous match but were unable to replicate that form. The result leaves them under pressure in the mid-table race, with both batting and bowling departments glutted with questions to answer, while RCB strengthened their position with a significant net run-rate boost.
