Sometimes, a calm morning set can take an unexpected turn and that’s exactly what happened during a performance by Rio-based DJ Phikey in France. What started as a scenic music session soon grabbed global attention for reasons no one saw coming.
The incident unfolded in Marseille, where Phikey was performing at a picturesque outdoor spot surrounded by water and mountains. A video from the scene has since gone viral.
According to details shared by the artist, the disruption began when a woman approached him during the set and asked him to stop the music. Phikey complied immediately and lowered the volume. However, the situation did not settle. The woman continued to confront him and threatened to involve the police.
Despite his attempts to de-escalate
the situation, the exchange grew increasingly tense. The woman shouted, “Who do you think you are?” and continued to verbally abuse him, using repeated profanity. Phikey, who did not understand French, tried to explain himself, but the confrontation persisted.
Holding a cup of coffee, the woman continued to argue, objecting to the music being played in the morning. She insisted he stay at the location, claiming authorities were on their way. As Phikey attempted to leave, she threw the coffee at him, further escalating the situation.
The altercation then turned physical. The woman reportedly used a taser on him and slapped him when he asked her to keep her distance. She continued shouting at him as the situation spiralled.
At one point, the woman picked up a stone, appearing to prepare for another attack. However, she tripped and fell before she could act, allowing Phikey to leave the spot safely.
The entire episode was recorded by the DJ and later shared on his Instagram account. Posting the clip, he wrote, “Still can’t believe this happened.” A line heard repeatedly in the video—“Why You Put The Music”—quickly went viral, with users across platforms remixing and reacting to it.
Following the video’s circulation, several users from France responded in the comments, apologising for the incident. One wrote, “I’m French living nearby and I sincerely apologise for her aggressive actions.” Another added, “On behalf of all French people, I’m sorry. We’re not all like that, I promise.”
Phikey, a DJ and producer from Rio de Janeiro, is known for his high-energy performances set against visually striking backdrops. His work often features melodic house mixes filmed in unique locations, including cloud-covered landscapes and coastal regions such as Lençóis Maranhenses and Jericoacoara.
