Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have received a timely boost ahead of their 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) clash against Punjab Kings (PBKS), with captain Rishabh Pant declared fit and available for selection.
The wicketkeeper-batter had sparked concern in the previous game against Royal Challengers Bengaluru after being struck on the left forearm by a short delivery from Josh Hazlewood.
Is Pant Injured?
Rishabh Pant initially walked off after the blow but returned to bat later in the innings, although he could not continue for long. Since then, he has been training with the squad, and early indications suggested the injury was limited to a bruise rather than anything more serious.
Confirming his availability, LSG bowling coach Bharat Arun provided a positive update
ahead of the afternoon fixture.
“He is perfectly alright, fit enough to play tomorrow (Sunday),” Arun told reporters, putting to rest any doubts over the skipper’s participation.
Bharat Arun On LSG Pace Attack
Beyond Pant’s fitness, Arun also expressed satisfaction with the development of the team’s pace attack. Youngster Prince Yadav has impressed with his progress, while Mayank Yadav and Mohsin Khan have made encouraging returns after injury setbacks. The coach emphasised the importance of understanding individual players to bring out their best.
“There is always room for improvement but I think we are fairly happy with the way they are performing. I am extremely happy with their progress and I strongly believe that coaching commences only when you connect with every individual. Because every individual is different,” Arun elaborated.
He further highlighted the need to build trust and tailor coaching approaches for each bowler. “And how quickly I connect with these bowlers is my challenge. And as far as that is concerned, I feel that I have connected well with them. And each bowler is different. So I think what they want from me for every bowler would be different. It’s how I cater to their needs.”
With a large pool of fast bowlers at their disposal, Arun acknowledged the challenge of keeping everyone prepared. “Our biggest challenge would be to get everybody match ready. So whoever plays is confident of doing well. Your plan should be very flexible. So sometimes, it’s like any other strategy. Even in war, you have this defence and attack,” Arun stated.
