The Indian Premier League auction is all set to take place on December 16 at a five-star venue in Goa, as per a report by Cricbuzz. The development came to light after BCCI logistics team forwarded a WhatsApp message on Saturday, October 17.
But an official email confirming the date and venue is yet to be sent to team owners or chief executives.
“The IPL 2026 Player Auction will take place on December 16, 2026, at ITC Grand Goa and the auction briefing will be held on December 15, 2026,” the BCCI WhatsApp notes.
As per the report, multiple IPL teams have confirmed receiving the message from BCCI.
The message was sent to help teams make logistical arrangements and book travel to Goa, according to the report. While it remains unclear whether the date
could be revised, an official communication is expected to be sent to IPL team owners and CEOs in due course.
In an interesting scheduling overlap, India are also set to face Sri Lanka in an ODI in Bengaluru on the same day.
It remains unclear whether the date of the game will be changed. Recent reports, however, suggested that the venue for the first match, scheduled to be held in New Delhi on Sunday, December 13, could be shifted.
BCCI, meanwhile, has denied any plans to move the game.
