Five people were killed on Friday morning when a car lost control, smashed through a barrier and plunged into a roadside ditch on the Delhi–Mumbai Expressway in Madhya Pradesh’s Ratlam district.
The accident
took place in the Rawti police station limits, roughly 30 km from the district headquarters.
According to Superintendent of Police Amit Kumar, the car was travelling towards Mumbai from Delhi when the driver is believed to have lost control. The vehicle broke through the expressway’s aluminium barrier before falling into the ditch.

“The car was heading towards Mumbai from Delhi. The vehicle broke the expressway barrier after the driver lost control and plunged into a ditch,” Superintendent of Police Amit Kumar told news agency PTI.
Kumar said the impact suggested the car had been moving at high speed, as the barrier it tore through was designed to withstand strong force.
All five occupants of the vehicle died in the crash. Among the victims were a 15-year-old boy and a 70-year-old man. Police said early findings indicate the driver may have briefly fallen asleep at the wheel, leading to the vehicle veering off course.
Rescue teams retrieved the bodies from the ditch and sent them for post-mortem examination. A detailed investigation has been launched to determine the exact cause of the incident.
