Senegal are taking on Belgium in their FIFA World Cup 2026 Round of 32 match on Wednesday (July 1). In the fixture underway at Lumen Field in Seattle, the Lions of Teranga opened the scoring in the 25th minute through Habib Diarra before Ismaïla Sarr doubled their lead in the 51st minute.
Diarra’s first-half goal helped Senegal break the record for the most goals scored by an African team in a single FIFA World Cup edition. Sarr’s strike then made Senegal the first African nation to score 10 goals in a single edition of the FIFA World Cup.
At the ongoing FIFA World Cup 2026, Senegal scored one goal in their opening Group I match against France before netting twice in a 3-2 defeat to Norway at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford on June 22. The

Ismaila Sarr is on fire for Senegal at the ongoing FIFA World Cup 2026 and has scored four goals so far. The four goals so far by Sarr in this year’s FIFA World Cup has helped him equal the record for the most goals scored by an African player in a single FIFA World Cup edition.
Before Sarr, who plays for Crystal Palace in the Premier League, only Cameroon’s Roger Milla had scored four goals in a single FIFA World Cup. Milla, who is also the oldest player to score in a FIFA World Cup match, achieved the feat at the 1990 edition.
