BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia has said that the Indian team management will have to think about when they can bring in Vaibhav Sooryavanshi into the Indian T20I squad, with the teenager already being part of India’s A side that will be playing in Sri Lanka.
Sooryavanshi
‘s selection wasn’t finalised and it was a last-minute decision to include him into India’s T20I squad for the tours of Ireland and England.Sooryavanshi’s selection has created a scheduling dilemma for the selectors. The teenager is already part of the India A team in Sri Lanka for a tri-series scheduled from June 9 to 21, but with the Ireland series getting underway on June 26, Saikia indicated that Sooryavanshi could be released early from the India A setup to join the team travelling
to the United Kingdom.
“The way the announcement has been made, we will have to think about the fact that he is a part of the India A squad for the tri-nation as well. And he is part of the England and Ireland series,” Saikia said at the press conference.
“We will have to take a call because the finalisation of his selection took place about an hour back. We will have to take a call and decide what is best for him. The priority will be for him to go to Ireland and England,” Saikia added.
The cricketing world is already marvelling at the exploits of Sooryavanshi, who has scarcely put a foot wrong in his brief professional career. It was only a little over a year ago that he made his IPL debut for the Rajasthan Royals.
If becoming the youngest centurion in IPL history was a brilliant achievement, what Sooryavanshi has accomplished since then has only added to his growing legend.
