YouTube, YouTube Music and Google Search reportedly faced disruptions in the US on Wednesday, with thousands of users reporting problems accessing the services. Downdetector recorded a sharp rise in complaints, with reports related to YouTube reaching around 24,000 at one point.
Users reported trouble loading videos, playback failures and repeated error messages. Some said refreshing webpages or restarting the app had failed to resolve the issue, while others experienced only temporary relief.
YouTube acknowledged the disruption in a post on X, saying it was working to restore normal service.

YouTube Acknowledges Issues
“Confirming we’re aware and working to fix this. You can follow along & subscribe for status updates in our Help Community here,” YouTube’s official X account said.
The reported outage appeared to affect both the desktop website and mobile apps, although the impact was not uniform. Some users said certain videos continued to play, while others could not access content.
One user on X wrote, “YouTube is down, again. None of my videos want to play again. It keeps showing the retry bulls#%.”
Another user complained about the disruption and the cost of the subscription service, writing, “So YouTube is just flatout broken rn, and got the nerve to charge you double digits for their Premium im sick”.
Users Report Mixed Experiences
Not everyone experienced the same problems. Some users reported that only selected videos were affected, while others said YouTube was working normally.
“It seem YouTube got the outage like some videos are working, while others videos are not working,” one user wrote on X.

Another user said, “my youtube is working fine. maybe it needs an update & it was because of the outage that it had yesterday that has already passed.”
Meanwhile, Google’s official Workspace Status Dashboard continued to list its services as operational. The contrast between the dashboard and user reports left the full extent of the disruption unclear.
Downdetector figures reflect reports submitted by users and do not, by themselves, confirm the cause or overall scale of an outage. YouTube had said it was working to fix the issue and directed users to its Help Community for updates.
