Ishan Kishan is on fire for India in the ongoing second T20I match against New Zealand. In the match taking place at Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium in Raipur, the 27-year-old left-handed
batter from Patna, who represents Jharkhand in domestic cricket, needed just 21 balls to complete his half-century. The fifty by Ishan in just 21 balls on Friday (January 23) helped him break Abhishek Sharma’s record of the fastest half-century for India in a T20I match against New Zealand.

World No. 1 T20I batter Abhishek needed 22 balls in the first T20I against New Zealand on Wednesday (January 21) to reach the 50-run mark.
Ishan completed his half-century by hitting Matt Henry for a four on the fourth ball of the sixth over of the Indian innings. He hammered 9 fours and 2 sixes en route to his fifty.
At the end of six overs of India’s innings in the 209-run chase, Ishan was batting on 56 runs from 23 balls. The score of 56 runs by Ishan at the end of powerplay was the second highest score by an Indian batter in Powerplay after Abhishek Sharma’s 58(21) vs England at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on February 2, 2025.
Abhishek out for golden duck
In the second T20I against New Zealand in Raipur, India had high hopes from Abhishek Sharma, who played a knock of 84 runs from 35 balls for the Men in Blue in the series opener, but he failed to open his account even. On the first ball of the second over of India’s innings, in an attempt to hit six off Jacob Duffy’s bowling, he was caught by Devon Conway.
Abhishek was the second Indian batter to get out in the 209-run chase. Before him, on the fourth ball of the first over, Matt Henry picked up Sanju Samson’s wicket. Samson, who opened his account by hitting Henry for a six on the second ball of the Indian innings, was caught by Rachin Ravindra on the fourth ball.

Kuldeep Yadav returned to form with two timely strikes in the middle overs as India limited New Zealand to 208 for 6 on a good batting surface in the second T20I. Rachin Ravindra (44 off 26) and skipper Mitchell Santner (47 not out off 27) took the attack to India in different phases of the game to ensure New Zealand got past 200-run mark.
