Kollam (Keralam) Sep 5 (PTI) A 23-year-old theft accused who escaped from police custody after allegedly finding the lock-up at a police station unlocked was arrested from Kundara here on Saturday, police said.
The accused, Vaijesh of Puthen Nada in Ezhukone, had been taken into custody in connection with a theft case and escaped from the Kundara police station around 1.30 am on September 3 by opening the unlocked lock-up, police said.
Police realised that he had escaped when they checked the lock-up sometime later.
A search was conducted at several places in Kundara and nearby areas, but Vaijesh could not be traced, police said.
A special team was subsequently formed to track him down.
Acting on a tip-off, police intercepted Vaijesh and his friend
at Sarathi Junction in Kundara on Saturday afternoon, officials said.
Though he resisted, police managed to overpower him and take him to the station.
Vaijesh was later produced before a court and remanded in judicial custody, police said.
Following his escape, a disciplinary inquiry was initiated against the police personnel present at the station. PTI TBA TBA KH
