Powered by brilliant centuries from Daryl Mitchell and Glenn Phillips, New Zealand recovered from early trouble to post a formidable 337 for 8 in the series-deciding ODI against India at the Holkar Stadium on Sunday.

Mitchell, given a life on one after a missed run-out, looked in complete control as he struck his fourth ODI hundred against India, finishing with 137 that included 15 fours and three sixes. In the process, he set the record for most runs by a batter in a three-match ODI series against India. Phillips, after a slow start, found his rhythm to hammer an 83-ball century, accelerating sharply after reaching 21 off 36 deliveries.

Earlier, Arshdeep Singh removed Henry Nicholls, while Harshit Rana dismissed Devon Conway and later broke the stand involving Will Young. With short boundaries aiding stroke play, Mitchell took charge against spin, while Phillips punished the seamers. India struck late, removing both centurions in quick succession, but captain Michael Bracewell’s unbeaten 28 ensured New Zealand crossed the 330-run mark and stayed firmly on course for a historic first ODI series win in India.
