Social media went into a frenzy after reports suggested that Deepika Padukone and Farah Khan, who launched the actress in Om Shanti Om (2007), unfollowed each other on Instagram. Fans quickly speculated that the fallout was linked to Farah’s repeated jokes about Deepika’s eight-hour work policy.
A quick search of their follower lists showed that Deepika wasn’t in Farah’s list and vice versa. Interestingly, Farah also seemed to have unfollowed Ranveer Singh, though the Gully Boy actor continues to follow her. The absence of mutual follows ignited rumours of a rift between the actor-director duo.
Farah Khan Clears the Air When Pinkvilla reached out, Farah set the record straight. “To begin with, we were not following each other earlier, too!!” she
clarified. According to her, she and Deepika had made a pact during the shooting of Happy New Year to avoid Instagram interactions, preferring direct communication through calls and messages. “We don’t even wish birthday wishes on Insta because Deepika doesn’t like it,” Farah explained.
Farah also dismissed claims that her 8-hour shift remarks were digs at Deepika. “My 8-hour comment wasn’t a dig; it was to make Dilip say he will now also work 8 hours when he actually works just for 2 hours!” she said, adding that the joke was being taken out of context.
Deepika’s 8-Hour Demand and Film Exits
The discussion around Deepika’s work-hour policy has been widely debated in the industry. Reports earlier this year claimed she exited Animal due to disagreements over working conditions and salary terms. More recently, she was said to have been dropped from the sequel of Kalki 2898 AD after disputes involving her request for an 8-hour workday, a reported 25% salary hike, and profit-sharing clauses.
Despite the chatter, Deepika has remained silent on these reports. After stepping away from Kalki 2898 AD, the actress has now begun shooting for King, her sixth collaboration with Shah Rukh Khan, signaling that her professional commitments remain as strong as ever.
The Bigger Picture
For now, Farah’s clarification appears to have put rumours of a fallout to rest. The filmmaker insists that she and Deepika continue to share a strong bond outside of social media optics. While online speculation continues, the reality is far less dramatic than it seemed at first glance.
