A software engineer’s decision to pursue a career path on YouTube for freedom, inner peace and satisfaction has caught people’s attention online. Despite once doing a high-paying job with Uber, this Indian man decided to quit and committed to a stint as a YouTube content creator and teacher.
“When I left Uber, a lot of people thought I had lost my mind. Good salary, big brand, stable life. And I was walking away from it to do YouTube, teaching and content creation in India,” the techie wrote on a detailed post on X.
“People told me very seriously, ‘This is not a good decision.’ Some said, why don’t you do teaching on the side, weekends maybe, and keep the job. That way you are safe.”
Techie’s Resilience Ultimately Wins
Even as the man sincerely
approached his YouTube ambitions, he received warnings from near and dear ones against it. The techie revealed that some even advised him to stay put with his Uber designation until he marries, or else he wouldn’t find anyone without a stable job.

Some said, why don’t you do…— Akshay Saini (@akshaymarch7) February 9, 2026
“A few senior folks even gave me life advice I didn’t ask for. One of them actually said, with the Uber software engineer tag, get married first, then do whatever you want. Being a teacher won’t get you good marriage options. I remember laughing inside and also feeling shocked. I wasn’t even thinking about marriage back then. I was just trying to build a career I could respect,” he wrote.
After leaving his Uber job, the techie remembers undergoing a prolonged break without work and any paycheque to look forward to. He said he wanted to give himself extra time to contemplate his future choices and devise a clear roadmap in his head.
‘This Is The Life I Always Wanted’
Having spent 10 months at home, the techie arrived with his YouTube channel named ‘NamasteDev’, over which he brought all his knowledge and expertise as a software engineer to the fore. He started attracting a huge view count on his videos and today has a subscriber base of over 2 million.
The man admitted that having to juggle multiple roles in running a successful YouTube channel does take its toll on him at times, but he absolutely loves the freedom and the rewards that come with it.
“Even today, some people give hate, judging decisions, commenting without knowing the work behind it. But when I look back at the journey, it barely affects me. It’s been 5 years now. I live in my hometown, Dehradun. I work with a small, strong remote team. I spend time with my family. I live a slow life, and I genuinely enjoy my work. This is the life I always wanted,” he wrote with glee.
The techie, who lives in Dehradun, also mentioned he feels proud of himself for persisting with his ways even as he received flak and advice against following the desired path in what would be an inspiring story for budding YouTubers and online content creators.
